Nighttime Closures Planned for I-76 Milling and Paving

Interstate 76

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced nighttime closures on the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township as part of a $37.9 million resurfacing and repair project. The initiative will target nearly five miles of the highway, along with ramps and over 20 bridges.

Motorists should note the following restrictions and detours:

  • Ramps to and from Girard Avenue to Eastbound I-76
    • Closed and detoured from Monday, June 2, to Thursday, June 5, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
  • Lane Closures on I-76 (Both Directions)
    • Sections between the U.S. 1 (City Avenue) and I-676 interchanges will have lane closures nightly from Monday, June 2, through Friday, June 6, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
  • Girard Avenue to Westbound I-76 Ramp
    • Closed on Tuesday, June 3, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Drivers should follow posted detours via Girard Avenue, Belmont Avenue, and Montgomery Drive.
  • Westbound I-76 to Lincoln/Kelly Drive Ramp
    • Closed on Tuesday, June 3, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. The detour directs traffic to Belmont Avenue and onto eastbound I-76 for access.
  • Eastbound I-76 to U.S. 1 (City Avenue) Ramp
    • Closed on Thursday, June 5, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Motorists will be rerouted via Montgomery Drive and westbound I-76.

PennDOT urges drivers to allow extra travel time due to potential delays and backups in the work areas, especially during overnight hours. All planned activities are weather dependent and may be adjusted if conditions require.

Travelers are reminded to use caution, remain alert, and obey all posted signs to ensure the safety of construction crews and fellow motorists.
