Nighttime Bridge Demolition to Disrupt Traffic on Rockhill Drive in Bensalem Township

Traffic Restrictions

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has alerted motorists to prepare for potential delays as a significant phase of bridge demolition work is set to take place on Rockhill Drive in Bensalem Township next week. This operation forms part of an ambitious $113.5 million project to reconstruct, widen, and enhance U.S. 1 in Bucks County, aiming to improve traffic flow and safety along this crucial corridor.

Scheduled from Monday, April 8, through Thursday, April 11, the construction activities will occur nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. During these hours, Rockhill Drive between Horizon Boulevard and Mall Boulevard will see a single lane traffic pattern enforced. Additionally, drivers should be prepared for intermittent 15-minute stoppages, which could further impact travel times through this stretch.

The extensive work on U.S. 1, stretching from the Turnpike Interchange in Bensalem Township to north of the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 in Middletown Township, includes not only the bridge demolition but also the reconstruction and widening of the road itself. Furthermore, the project encompasses improvements to interchanges and the construction of new bridges, all under the Section RC2 contract.

Motorists planning to travel through the affected area next week are advised to allow extra time for their journeys to account for the expected disruptions. PennDOT has emphasized that the schedule for these construction activities is contingent upon favorable weather conditions and may be subject to change.
