NEXGEL Launches Study on Hydrogel Benefits for Laser Hair Removal

Nexgel

LANGHORNE, PANEXGEL, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXGL) announced this week the commencement of an institutional review board (IRB) study. The study, fully funded by Innovative Optics US dba Vanalay, aims to explore the benefits of hydrogel application during laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal is effective but can release a plume containing airborne particles and hazardous organic compounds. Inhaling these particles may pose health risks to professionals conducting the treatments. Over a dozen states have mandated plume evacuation systems to mitigate these hazards.

NEXGEL’s hydrogel, known for its high-water content, might offer a solution. When applied to the skin before the procedure, it may absorb and capture the harmful plume. Additionally, it could enhance the effectiveness of hair removal and reduce the pain associated with the treatment, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The study, conducted at the Florida Clinical Research Center by plastic surgeons Dr. Barry DiBernardo and Dr. Jason Pozner, involves 30 patients. The primary measure is the reduction of airborne plume during laser treatments. Results are expected in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Adam Levy, CEO of NEXGEL, stated, “We continue to uncover a broad range of OTC and cosmetic applications for our hydrogel due to its high-water concentration and unique transdermal characteristics. The opportunity to partner with Vanalay is a tremendous testament to the strength of our core product.” He added, “We hope to bring to market a solution that can alleviate the concern of potential health problems for clinicians and their patients during these procedures.”

This study could pave the way for a safer and more effective approach to laser hair removal, benefiting both practitioners and patients.
