LANSDALE, PA — The 365 Foundation Inc. has unveiled a pioneering initiative designed to provide career opportunities for formerly incarcerated women. The Automotive Technical Training Program, developed in collaboration with Vehicles for Change and HTX Labs, will offer virtual reality-based training in automotive repair and maintenance skills.

Innovative Training for a Fresh Start

“This program represents a unique opportunity for us to make a real difference in the lives of women who have been impacted by incarceration,” said Natalie Venezia, Executive Director of 365 Foundation Inc. “By providing these individuals with valuable skills and knowledge through innovative technology, we are giving them the tools they need to succeed in the automotive industry.”

The VR Auto Technician Training Program is tailored for women transitioning out of prisons, jails, and reentry facilities. This groundbreaking initiative aims to facilitate their reintegration into society by offering access to high-demand career opportunities before their release. The immersive training allows participants to earn at least two ASE certifications while learning essential automotive skills in a dynamic virtual garage environment.

Addressing a Growing Demand

A 2019 report from TechForce Foundation highlighted a significant gap between the demand for new vehicle technicians and the number of people entering the field. The report estimated a need for about 76,000 new automotive technicians annually between 2016 and 2026, while the supply was only around 37,000 annually. In Philadelphia and surrounding areas, over 2,800 jobs are available for individuals with these skills.

Building Pathways to Success

Partnering with national employment networks such as NAPA Auto Care Centers and the National Auto Dealers Association (NADA), the program ensures job placement opportunities for trainees upon completion. This initiative aims to provide formerly incarcerated women with the resources they need to secure stable employment and build successful careers in the automotive industry.

Implications for the Future

This initiative is not just about providing technical skills; it’s about offering a fresh start and fostering economic independence. The ability to secure a job or start a business can pave the way for a brighter future. By equipping these women with marketable skills and certifications, the program helps reduce recidivism and promotes social equity.

The launch of the Automotive Technical Training Program marks a significant step towards addressing the employment gap for formerly incarcerated women. With ongoing support from community and corporate partners, the 365 Foundation Inc. aims to make substantial strides in transforming lives and contributing to a more inclusive workforce.

This initiative exemplifies how innovative solutions and collaborative efforts can create lasting, positive change for individuals and communities.
