New Jersey Man Detained in Alleged Custody Dispute Case, Child Found Safe

Police News

EPHRATA, PA — A dramatic search for a missing four-year-old ended with relief and an arrest in Camden, New Jersey, according to the Ephrata Police Department in Pennsylvania.

The saga began on Saturday, January 13, when Ephrata Police were called to investigate the disappearance of a young child from a residence on the 500 block of East Main Street. The child had been granted by court order into the custody and care of extended family members when the biological father, Dennis Harris Jr., 32, of Sicklerville, NJ, allegedly absconded with the child.

Ephrata Police swiftly obtained an arrest warrant for Harris and launched an extensive search that spanned state lines. With the assistance of the Monroe Township Police Department and Camden County Police Department in New Jersey, the search concluded successfully.

The child was found safe and unharmed in Camden, New Jersey, and has since been returned to Pennsylvania. Harris was also discovered at the same location and taken into custody. He is currently awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

As always, it’s crucial to remember that an arrest does not equate to a declaration of guilt. Harris, like all individuals facing criminal allegations, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The ongoing investigation will continue to unravel the details surrounding this case.
