New Castle Teen Arrested Following Alleged Assault at Christiana Mall

NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested a 17-year-old male from New Castle, Delaware, in connection with an alleged assault that took place at the Christiana Mall in Newark on Saturday evening.

On February 24, 2024, at approximately 6:07 p.m., troopers responded to reports of several teenage males fighting at the mall, located at 750 Christiana Mall. Upon arrival, they learned that a 14-year-old teen and a 16-year-old teen had been surrounded by a group of unknown teenagers. An argument reportedly ensued, and one of the suspects struck the 16-year-old before pushing him to the ground as he attempted to leave. The suspects then allegedly began to kick and punch the 16-year-old. When the 14-year-old teen tried to intervene, he was also pushed to the ground and assaulted. The group fled towards the parking lot as mall security approached.

The 17-year-old suspect from New Castle was taken into custody without incident. The 14-year-old victim, who sustained serious injuries, was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The 16-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The other three suspects, described as teenagers, remain unidentified.

The following day, the 17-year-old turned himself in at Troop 2. He has been charged with second-degree assault, a felony, third-degree assault, and two counts of disorderly conduct. After arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was released to a guardian on a $3,700 unsecured bond.
