RADNOR, PA — McNees Wallace & Nurick has expanded its state and local tax practice in Radnor with the addition of attorney Sherlyn Martinez, strengthening the firm’s capacity to advise businesses on tax compliance, transactions and corporate restructuring.
Martinez joins the firm’s State and Local Tax Group, where her practice will focus on state income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, and tax considerations arising from mergers and acquisitions.
The appointment adds transactional tax experience to the firm’s Radnor office, particularly in evaluating the tax implications of business acquisitions, ownership changes and restructuring.
Before joining McNees, Martinez worked in the state and local tax practice of a global professional services firm. She advised buyers and sellers across multiple industries on tax due diligence, transaction planning, restructuring and post-acquisition matters.
Her experience includes identifying potential state and local tax liabilities during acquisitions and advising businesses on compliance obligations associated with their operations.
Paul Morcom, who leads McNees’ State and Local Tax Group, pointed to Martinez’s combination of tax advisory and transactional experience.
“She already has a strong foundation in state and local tax, along with experience looking at those issues in the context of business transactions,” Morcom said.
Martinez indicated that her approach to advising businesses has been influenced by growing up around family members who owned businesses.
“Growing up around family members who are business owners taught me to look beyond the legal issue and understand the practical realities a client faces,” Martinez said.
Her background also includes experience assisting individual taxpayers with federal tax disputes.
While attending Temple University Beasley School of Law, Martinez served as assistant director of the school’s Low-Income Tax Clinic, helping taxpayers navigate Internal Revenue Service audits, collections, liens and levies.
She also supervised and trained law students in client representation and case management.
Martinez earned her law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law and bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and political science from Pennsylvania State University.
Her addition broadens McNees’ state and local tax advisory resources for businesses managing ongoing compliance requirements and the tax consequences of corporate transactions.
