PHILADELPHIA, PA — Banking technology company Matera has released a free implementation of the ANSI X9.150 payment QR code standard, allowing financial institutions and developers to process up to 100,000 monthly transactions as it seeks to expand adoption of interoperable account-to-account payments.
The software supports up to two payment networks under its open-source license and can be deployed locally or through cloud infrastructure without licensing fees, application programming interface keys or registration.
Banks, credit unions, financial technology companies and developers can use the platform to generate and validate compliant QR codes, build prototypes, evaluate payment experiences and operate qualifying production deployments.
The release gives potential customers a way to test and implement the standard before upgrading to Matera’s commercial platform when transaction volumes exceed 100,000 QR codes per month or additional payment networks are required.
Matera’s enterprise offering supports payment systems including FedNow, RTP, ACH credit transfers and the Zelle network, along with emerging digital payment methods such as stablecoins.
The commercial platform also includes enterprise management tools, technical support and higher-volume deployment capabilities.
“As an active contributor to the X9.150 standard, we believe the industry’s success depends on making implementation as simple as possible,” Chief Executive Officer Carlos Netto stated.
The standard is designed to allow merchant-presented QR codes to work across multiple payment networks, potentially reducing fragmentation among account-to-account payment systems.
“The faster developers can experiment with X9.150, the faster the industry can move toward interoperable account-to-account payments,” Netto stated.
The software is available immediately through GitHub, with a ready-to-run version offered through Docker Hub.
