SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of resurfacing, guiderail replacement, and bridge repair operations on Interstate 476. This extensive $63.7 million project will impact nearly 17 miles of the interstate, including on-and-off ramps and bridges from I-76 in West Conshohocken Borough to I-95 in Ridley Township.
Starting Monday, July 22, and continuing through Friday, July 26, various lane closures will be in effect. From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the ramp from northbound I-476 to U.S. 30 in Radnor Township will undergo bridge repairs. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers at the U.S. 30 intersection.
Evening and overnight work will include lane closures from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of northbound I-476 between Route 3 and I-76 for guiderail replacement. Simultaneously, southbound lanes between I-76 and I-95 will be closed for paving.
Additionally, the ramps from the U.S. 1 interchange to both northbound and southbound I-476 in Marple Township will experience closures for milling and paving during the same hours.
Baltimore Pike will also see disruptions. On Monday, July 22, through Friday, July 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, there will be lane closures with flagging between Turner Road and Paper Mill Road for overhead bridge repairs.
Motorists should plan for significant backups and delays when traveling through these work zones. All activities are weather-dependent.
This project aims to extend the design life of I-476 and improve both ride quality and safety. The work includes milling and overlaying travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 structures, improving stormwater management basins, and addressing rock slope stabilization. Additional tasks include repairing sound walls, replacing inlets, and installing new pavement markings, delineators, rumble strips, signage, and guiderail.
H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, PA, is the general contractor for this federally funded project. Physical construction is expected to conclude in late 2025.
Drivers are urged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time to navigate through the construction zones.
