Major Overnight Lane Closures Coming to I-95: Expect Delays in Northeast Philly

Traffic Restrictions

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that motorists should prepare for overnight lane closures and a long-term ramp shutdown on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia as part of the $355.3 million Section BR3 project to widen and reconstruct the northbound lanes of the interstate.

Beginning tonight, November 2, and continuing through Friday, November 7, lane closures will take place nightly from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM between the Allegheny Avenue and Cottman Avenue (Route 73) interchanges. Crews will conduct bridge repairs, milling, paving, and barrier installation to shift traffic patterns.

In addition, from Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 21, the ramp from Aramingo Avenue at the Bridge Street Interchange to I-95 south will be closed 24/7 for reconstruction. Drivers will be detoured via the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange, turning right onto Aramingo Avenue, right onto Adams Avenue, and then right again onto the ramp to I-95 south.

PennDOT advises travelers to use alternate routes or plan for additional travel time, as significant congestion and delays are expected throughout the construction zone. All work is weather dependent.

The I-95 Section BR3 project is part of a larger, multi-year effort to modernize and expand one of the region’s most heavily traveled corridors, improving safety, traffic flow, and long-term infrastructure reliability.
