BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the completion of major construction work on a $1.9 million project at the Old Bethlehem Pike and Portzer Road Intersection in Milford and Richland townships, Bucks County. The intersection, which had been closed since January 2022, now features a single-lane roundabout aimed to enhance traffic flow and reduce angle crashes.
Key details of the project include:
- Reconfiguration of the existing intersection into a single-lane roundabout.
- Roadway lane expansion at the roundabout entries transitioning to an 18-foot-wide circulatory width.
- Construction of a five-foot-wide sidewalk on the east side of the roundabout.
- Installation of illuminated signage for alerting motorists of the upcoming traffic pattern.
- Addition of an eight-foot-wide bituminous multi-use trail connecting the St. Isidore’s Trail and the Blackledge Estates Trail on the west side of Portzer Road, improving pedestrian and bicyclist mobility.
While the bulk of the construction is complete, additional work to install new permanent lighting will continue. This may necessitate periodic lane restrictions at the Old Bethlehem Pike and Portzer Road Intersection as required by the contractor.
The general contractor for this state-funded improvement project is Grace Industries, Inc. of Bath, PA.
