PHILADELPHIA, PA — The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), a renowned medical assessment firm, has announced the appointment of Laura Ryan as Vice President of Product Management & Innovation. Joining the company’s Growth and Innovation division, Ryan brings a wealth of experience in product management, health care education, and relationship management.
In her new role, Ryan will oversee the creation and deployment of innovative and high-quality assessment products and services. She joins NBME from Elsevier, where she spent more than ten years leading a multi-functional team to develop digital products and content solutions to educate health care practitioners.
“Laura is a fantastic leader who is deeply invested in improving patient care through her work building digital assessments and tools that deliver information and insights to health care professionals,” said Pamela Treves, NBME Senior Vice President of Growth and Innovation. “She will play an integral role in enhancing our product portfolio, and we are delighted to have her on board.”
Ryan’s approach to innovation and product strategy will center around NBME’s medical learners, educators, and partners. Working closely with internal NBME experts and the medical education community, Ryan aims to understand customer needs, challenges, and behaviors. These insights will directly inform her product decisions.
“It’s a tremendously exciting time to be joining NBME,” Ryan said. “What we’re focusing on now is assessment that drives learning. We’re determining how to provide actionable insights to our medical learners in order to help guide the development of the skills and behaviors needed to deliver quality care to a diverse population of patients.”
Ryan’s career trajectory reflects her dedication to public health and education. Starting as a social worker, she transitioned to the online education industry, leading a team to deliver compliance training and assessments. She later shifted her focus to developing digital education products for health care practitioners across multiple specialties.
A graduate of Rutgers University, Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. In 2022, she earned her Master of Public Health from George Washington University, graduating summa cum laude. She previously served as the program director of Commercial Content Solutions, STMJ Product Management at Elsevier.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ryan is also a committed community advocate. She serves as a newly appointed board member of the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund (DVLF), a philanthropic organization that supports smaller LGBTQ+ nonprofits in the region. She also holds positions on the board of directors at the William Way LGBT Community Center (WWCC) and chairs its Governance Committee.
The addition of Laura Ryan to NBME’s leadership team marks an exciting time for the organization. As it continues to fulfill its mission through innovative product delivery, her expertise in digital education products and agile product development will be invaluable. Industry watchers will be closely following the impact of her work on the evolution of medical assessment.
