WILMINGTON, DE — A late-night drive turned tragic in north Wilmington this past Saturday when a fatal crash claimed the life of a 30-year-old Wilmington resident. The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the incident.

On February 10, 2024, at around 10:38 p.m., the victim was driving a Kia Optima southbound on Governor Printz Boulevard. As she navigated a curve near Lore Avenue, the vehicle tragically veered off the road and onto the right shoulder. There, an unoccupied Ford F-650 flatbed tow truck was parked, which the Kia collided with, becoming wedged underneath it.

The force of the impact shoved the tow truck into the gated entrance of Ellmore Auto Collision, a nearby auto repair shop. The driver of the Kia, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity is being withheld until her family can be informed.

The unfortunate incident led to temporary road closures as investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway. The southbound lanes of Governor Printz Boulevard were closed for about four hours, while the northbound lanes were closed for approximately one hour.

Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information to come forward. Witnesses can contact Senior Corporal M. Calio at (302) 365-8483. Tips can also be submitted by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.

This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and the potentially fatal consequences of not wearing a seatbelt.
