Lancaster County Roads to Undergo Safety Upgrades Starting Next Week

Traffic Alert

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has unveiled plans for a comprehensive safety improvement project across multiple routes in Lancaster County. Set to commence on Monday, April 8, the initiative aims to enhance road conditions and safety for drivers navigating this scenic yet bustling region.

At the heart of the project are measures designed to significantly reduce the risk of accidents and improve overall traffic flow. These include the application of high friction surface treatments to roads prone to slippage, asphalt resurfacing to smooth out rough patches, fresh line painting for clearer lane demarcation, the addition of advanced warning markings to alert drivers to upcoming hazards, and updates to signage for better navigation.

The targeted routes for these improvements span various townships, reflecting PennDOT’s commitment to countywide safety enhancements. Among the roads slated for upgrades are Route 72 in Rapho Township, Route 241 in Mount Joy Township, Route 324 in Martic Township, and several others, including North Ridge Road in West and East Cocalico townships and Millport Road in West Lampeter Township.

Initiating the project will be milling and paving operations on North Ridge Road, Donerville Road, and Prospect Road. Contractors, adhering to a schedule sensitive to peak traffic hours, will conduct work during daylight to minimize disruptions. To ensure that morning and evening commutes remain as smooth as possible, PennDOT has stipulated that no lane closures will occur between 6:00 AM and 8:30 AM on most of the affected routes, with extended restrictions on Route 72 and Millport Road during peak traffic periods.

RAM Construction Services of Michigan, Inc., a Livonia-based contractor, has been entrusted with executing this $727,504 project. As work progresses, drivers can anticipate short-term lane closures, though efforts will be made to maintain traffic flow and limit inconvenience.
