LANCASTER, PA — A Lancaster city man has been sentenced to between 5 ½ and 12 years in prison for dealing fentanyl and cocaine, according to Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams. Jonathan Figueroa, 31, of the first block of S. Mary St., was handed his sentence on February 16 by Lancaster County President Judge David Ashworth.

Figueroa’s run-in with the law began following a traffic stop on December 12, 2022, in the 300 block of New Holland Ave. The Lancaster City Bureau of Police initiated the stop due to a non-functioning center brake light on Figueroa’s vehicle. However, what seemed like a routine traffic violation soon escalated into a significant drug bust.

When officers searched Figueroa’s car, they discovered 850 bags of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. The bags, stamped with the name “Escobar,” totaled 22.53 grams. Investigators also found crack cocaine in 22 orange capsules totaling 8.8 grams and two corner-tied bags totaling 5.7 grams. The total amount of cocaine seized was 14.5 grams.

On October 20, 2023, Figueroa pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, two counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. Possession with intent to deliver is a charge that indicates the person had the drugs not just for personal use but intended to distribute them to others.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Rall prosecuted the case, while Assistant District Attorney CJ Restemayer handled the sentencing proceeding. Lancaster City Bureau of Police Officer Andrew Conard filed the charges.
