BLUE BELL, PA — More than 90 lawyers and support personnel have left Cipriani & Werner to form KLA Legal LLP, creating a new full-service law firm with operations across five states and the United Kingdom and a concentration in cybersecurity, life sciences and complex litigation.
The firm takes its name from founders Ernie Koschineg, John Loyal and Mike Abbott. More than 50 lawyers and 40 support professionals made the move from Cipriani & Werner, giving KLA Legal a substantial workforce at launch.
KLA Legal will operate virtually, with professionals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Florida and an office in London. The firm plans near-term expansion into California and Colorado.
Its practice areas include cybersecurity and privacy, life sciences, technology errors and omissions, media, digital health and health care, directors and officers matters, and complex litigation.
Koschineg will serve as founding partner and chair of national litigation, while Loyal is founding partner and chair of cybersecurity, data protection and incident response. Abbott is founding partner and chair of life sciences and complex litigation.
“The time was right to create something unique and special to serve clients worldwide,” Koschineg stated.
The formation gives KLA Legal an immediate presence in cybersecurity and data protection, an area where Loyal argued legal advisers must adapt alongside changing threats.
“Cyber threats are not just growing, they are also evolving,” Loyal stated. “The counselors trusted to protect and support entities who face these threats must also evolve and grow.”
Abbott characterized the new firm’s structure as an opportunity to operate with greater focus and flexibility.
“This move allows us to be more focused, more agile, and more effective,” Abbott stated. “That’s what clients expect in this day and age.”
