I-95 North Reopens Near Betsy Ross Bridge After Repairs

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia commuters received welcome news as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the reopening of northbound Interstate 95 approaching the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange in Northeast Philadelphia. The critical stretch of highway had been closed for repairs following an incident involving a tractor-trailer that struck a Conrail bridge over the interstate earlier in the week.

The collision, which occurred on Monday, April 1, initially led to a reduction of I-95 North to a single lane. The situation escalated by Monday night, just after 10:00 PM, when the decision was made to close the interstate entirely to facilitate cleanup and repair efforts undertaken by Conrail’s contractor.

After days of intensive work to address the damage, both the northbound lanes of I-95 and the ramp from Castor Avenue to I-95 North were declared safe for travel and reopened to traffic on Saturday. This development marks a swift resolution to what could have been a prolonged disruption for thousands of daily commuters who rely on this major artery for their travel needs.

The reopening of these lanes is expected to alleviate the significant traffic disruptions experienced throughout the week, restoring a semblance of normalcy to the daily routines of many in the Philadelphia area. PennDOT and Conrail have been commended for their rapid response and efficient management of the repair operations, ensuring minimal delay in getting the interstate back to full operational status.
