PHILADELPHIA, PA — Northbound Interstate 95 drivers in Southwest Philadelphia should prepare for overnight delays Thursday as PennDOT closes a lane on the Girard Point Bridge corridor for construction-related material deliveries.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: Northbound I-95 between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611)
- Dates: Thursday, Oct. 8, into Friday, Oct. 9
- Times: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Reason: Construction material deliveries
A left lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611) throughout the overnight work period.
PennDOT warned that backups and delays will occur through the work zone. Drivers should plan extra time or consider alternate routes if traveling through Southwest Philadelphia overnight.
The restriction is part of a $261.5 million project to rehabilitate the 5,183-foot, double-decked Girard Point Bridge and nine approach structures between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street.
The broader project includes bridge-deck rehabilitation, new expansion joints and parapets, repairs and painting of portions of the steel superstructure, concrete substructure repairs, and lighting and drainage upgrades.
Crews will also install protection and scour remediation around the main Girard Point Bridge pier in the Schuylkill River and upgrade Intelligent Transportation Systems equipment along I-95.
South State Inc. of Bridgeton, New Jersey, is the general contractor. The project is financed with 90% federal and 10% state funds under PennDOT’s Bridge Preservation Program.
