The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will close the left lane overnight to accommodate material deliveries for ongoing repairs to the Girard Point Bridge.
PennDOT expects backups and delays through the work zone. Motorists traveling northbound on I-95 should allow extra time, particularly when approaching the bridge during the overnight construction period.
The restriction is part of a project to rehabilitate the 5,183-foot, double-decked Girard Point Bridge and nine approach structures between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street.
The improvements include repairs to bridge decks, expansion joints, barriers and structural steel, along with upgrades to lighting, drainage and traffic management systems. Crews will also perform work to protect the bridge’s main pier in the Schuylkill River against erosion.
South State Inc. of Bridgeton, New Jersey, is the general contractor. The project is funded with 90% federal and 10% state funds through PennDOT’s Bridge Preservation Program.
Drivers should remain alert for changing traffic conditions and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.
