PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced significant road closures as part of the ongoing construction on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia. This work is crucial to the $270 million I-95/BS2 project, slated for completion in 2027, focusing on reconstructing the interstate from Margaret Street to Carver Street.

Starting Tuesday, September 10, through Friday, September 13, Fraley Street will be closed from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM between James Street and Tacony Street. The closure is necessary for the demolition of the existing I-95 bridge over James Street. During this period, traffic will be rerouted. Vehicles from James Street must detour left onto Bridge Street and then continue to Tacony Street. Conversely, those on Tacony Street will detour via a right turn onto Bridge Street followed by a right onto Eadom Street.

Additionally, on Thursday, September 12, Tacony Street will close from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM between Aramingo Avenue and Bridge Street. This closure supports the construction of the new southbound I-95 viaduct at Tacony Street. Drivers from Aramingo/Harbison Avenue will be directed to detour right on Bridge Street, then left on Tacony Street. Meanwhile, traffic on Tacony Street will be diverted right onto Bridge Street and left onto Aramingo/Harbison Avenue.

Motorists are advised to anticipate delays and are encouraged to plan extra travel time when navigating these areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent, and adjustments may occur based on conditions. This phase of the project is part of PennDOT’s efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve traffic flow in the region.
