PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers should prepare for overnight disruptions on the Schuylkill Expressway as Market Street Bridge construction closes westbound Interstate 76 and restricts eastbound traffic in Center City.

A right lane closure will be in place on eastbound I-76 between the I-676 and 30th Street interchanges beginning Tuesday night.
Westbound I-76 will be fully closed between the 30th Street and I-676 interchanges Wednesday and Thursday nights.
During the westbound closures, drivers will be directed to exit at 30th Street and travel west on Schuylkill Avenue to reach the entrance ramps for I-76 West and I-676 East.
Drivers should plan extra time because backups and delays are expected through the work area and along the detour route. Seek alternate routes when practical and remain alert for changing traffic patterns near the interchanges.
The center lane of Market Street between Schuylkill Avenue and 30th Street will also remain closed through Thursday, August 20, for utility construction. Two lanes will remain open in each direction.
That utility work is preparing the corridor for the closure, rehabilitation and redecking of the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River. The approximately 14-month closure is scheduled to begin Monday, August 24, with additional detour information expected closer to the start of construction.
The restrictions are part of PennDOT’s $148.9 million project to replace and rehabilitate several Market Street bridges over Amtrak, I-76, the Schuylkill River, the Schuylkill River Trail and CSX Railroad.
