PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers should prepare for four nights of closures and detours on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) beginning Tuesday, September 8, as Market Street Bridge construction restricts both directions in Center City Philadelphia.

Eastbound I-76 will close Tuesday and Wednesday nights between the 30th Street and Interstate 676 interchanges. Drivers will exit at Arch Street/30th Street, turn left onto Chestnut Street, and then turn right onto Schuylkill Avenue to reach the eastbound I-76 entrance ramp at Walnut Street.
Westbound I-76 will close Thursday and Friday nights between the South Street and 30th Street interchanges. Drivers will exit at Walnut Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the entrance ramps for I-76 and I-676.
Drivers should plan extra time because backups and delays are expected near the closures and along both detour routes. Seek an alternate route when possible. All scheduled activities depend on weather conditions.
The restrictions are part of a $148.9 million project to rehabilitate and replace Market Street bridges spanning Amtrak, I-76, the Schuylkill River, the Schuylkill River Trail, and CSX Railroad.
Travelers are also reminded that the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River is closed for approximately 14 months during rehabilitation.
