WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced significant paving and utility construction on Interstate 476 starting next week. This $63.7 million project aims to resurface, repair, and enhance nearly 17 miles of the interstate, including associated ramps and bridges, stretching from I-76 in West Conshohocken to I-95 in Ridley Township.
From September 9 through September 13, lane closures will occur nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of southbound I-476 between the Route 3 and I-95 interchanges for paving. Simultaneously, similar closures will affect northbound lanes between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges for paving and utility work. Daytime closures with flagging will occur on Rose Valley Road in Nether Providence Township for bridge repairs.
Motorists should anticipate delays and plan for extra travel time through these areas. Weather conditions may impact the schedule. This extensive project involves milling and overlaying travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 structures, and improving stormwater management basins to stabilize slopes. Additional work includes sound wall repairs, inlet replacements, and installation of new pavement markings and guiderails.
H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, PA, is the lead contractor, with full federal funding supporting the project. Completion of physical construction is projected for late 2025, enhancing the safety and longevity of the interstate.
