ROSE VALLEY, PA — In a much-anticipated return to the stage, the Hedgerow Theatre Company kicks off 2024 with a captivating performance of Enda Walsh’s modern classic, “The New Electric Ballroom”. This haunting fable, penned by the acclaimed Irish playwright of the TONY-winning musical ‘Once’, explores the intricate complexities of women often overlooked by society.

Stepping into the director’s shoes is Philadelphia’s admired playwright and director, Emma Gibson, founder of Tiny Dynamite. The play boasts an exceptional cast including regionally recognized talents Janis Dardaris, Marcia Saunders, and Stephen Patrick Smith, along with Hedgerow’s own Artistic Director, Marcie Bramucci.

“The New Electric Ballroom” is a poignant tale set in a remote Irish fishing village, revolving around three sisters whose lives are upended by a moment of betrayal. As they grapple with the weight of their past and dreams unfulfilled, audiences are drawn into a world that is both intoxicating and original. Lauded by The New York Times, this Edinburgh Fringe First Award-winning play is sure to captivate theatre-goers with its rich narrative and atmospheric mystery.

Director Emma Gibson reflects on the play’s resonating themes: “This play sits deeply with me—a tale of regret and longing, told with Walsh’s customary bold, theatrical language and style. It is a cautionary tale that reminds us to move away from regret and live in the present.”

Marcie Bramucci, who also stars as the younger sister, shares her enthusiasm for the playwright’s unique storytelling ability. “Walsh’s work has a way of bypassing the intellect and going straight into your bones,” she says. “His unique ability to cut to the core makes the work visceral, haunting, and electrifyingly resonant. We could not be more fortunate for the talents of these exceptional artists to inhabit this pulsing and utterly feeling play.”
