KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — The Goddard School has honored Shunda Francis as its 2025 Teacher of the Year during Teacher Appreciation Week. Francis, a preschool/pre-k teacher at The Goddard School of Sugar Hill, GA, stood out for her passion, creativity, and dedication to fostering independent and curious learners.
“I am immensely thankful and humbled to receive The Goddard School Teacher of the Year Award,” said Francis, who has been teaching for 21 years. “Nothing brings me more joy than witnessing the growth and development of my students.”
Francis engages her students through creative, inquiry-based learning, including activities like reading aloud to stuffed animals to boost early literacy and graphing animal hibernation schedules to build math skills. Her individualized approach helps children achieve their full potential while nurturing social-emotional development.

Now in its 19th year, The Goddard School Teacher of the Year Award celebrates dedication and innovation in early childhood education. This year, more than 8,500 nominations were submitted across over 640 locations nationwide. Sixteen regional finalists were selected before Francis was chosen as the overall winner.
The regional honorees were acknowledged for their leadership and creativity in the classroom, with each receiving $1,000 and additional recognition. As the Teacher of the Year, Francis was awarded an additional $5,000 prize.

The award underscores The Goddard School’s commitment to nurturing young learners and supporting educators in shaping the futures of nearly 100,000 children across the United States.
