Gaming and Leisure Properties

WYOMISSING, PAGaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. (GLPI) and Bally’s Corporation are moving forward with a $1.19 billion project that will bring a large-scale casino resort to Chicago’s River West neighborhood. The development, rising on the former Chicago Tribune site, is designed to serve as a landmark entertainment hub and a catalyst for the area’s economic growth.

The project will feature a 178,000-square-foot casino with more than 3,300 slot machines and 170 table games, a 500-room luxury hotel, extensive dining and nightlife options, event space, and a new riverwalk with green space accessible to the community. Bally’s expects the resort to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.

GLPI, which acquired the site in 2024 for $250 million, highlighted its commitment to tenant-driven expansion and long-term shareholder value through this latest investment. The company also released updated construction milestones, photos, and renderings to showcase progress.

Completed work includes demolition of the Tribune buildings, foundation caissons, trench excavation, waterproofing, and the installation of crane equipment for steel erection. Current activity centers on concrete pours, rebar installation, underground electrical and plumbing work, and the rising structural walls of both the casino and hotel.

Upcoming efforts will see continued vertical construction of the hotel and casino, additional steel staging, and installation of cranes #2 and #3. Curtainwall fabrication for the hotel and casino is also underway.
