RIDLEY PARK, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that gas main relocation will commence next week on Ridley Avenue as part of a $9.9 million project to replace the Sellers Avenue bridge superstructure in Ridley Park Borough, Delaware County.
From Tuesday, August 20, through Friday, August 30, a weekday lane closure is scheduled on Ridley Avenue between Sellers Avenue/Ward Avenue and North Swarthmore Avenue from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area due to potential backups and delays. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
This project involves the removal and replacement of the Sellers Avenue bridge superstructure with a 75-foot-long concrete box beam bridge featuring two 12-foot travel lanes and sidewalks on both sides. New concrete material will be placed behind the existing stone masonry abutments to bolster stability.
In addition to the bridge replacement, improvements will be made to the approach roadways, including East Ridley Avenue, Sellers Avenue, and Hinkley Avenue. These enhancements will encompass milling and resurfacing, stormwater management, and the installation of ADA-compliant curbs.
PennDOT aims to enhance the safety and durability of this crucial infrastructure. Commuters are encouraged to stay informed and exercise patience during the construction period.
