NEW CASTLE, DE — Network infrastructure provider FS introduced an 800-gigabit muxponder capable of carrying as much as 3.2 terabits per second, expanding its data-center interconnection portfolio as artificial-intelligence and cloud workloads increase traffic between facilities.
The D7070 Series aggregates 100-gigabit and 400-gigabit Ethernet services across four 800-gigabit coherent wavelengths. The 1U platform is intended for data-center, metropolitan and regional networks.
A muxponder combines multiple lower-speed data streams for transmission over higher-capacity optical connections. The D7070 supports 100G QSFP28 and 400G QSFP112 client interfaces, along with 800G CFP2-DCO coherent line modules.
“As AI and cloud workloads accelerate inter-site traffic growth, customers need DCI networks that can scale with demand while maximizing existing infrastructure,” Bener Peng, FS product research and development manager, said.
The equipment uses an open software architecture and standardized WebGUI and command-line management interfaces. Those features allow operators to connect the platform with third-party network-management systems in multivendor environments.
The launch extends FS’s data-center interconnection lineup from 100G to 800G. Its portfolio supports Ethernet, Optical Transport Network, SONET/SDH and Fibre Channel services.
At the lower end of the range, the company’s D5110 Series supports automated 100G point-to-point links of as much as 120 kilometers. The D710 Series provides 200G short-haul connections with AES-256 Layer 1 encryption and multiprotocol support.
FS also offers the D6000 Series for 400G short-range connections using ZR and ZR+ optics. Its D7000 Series targets medium- and long-distance 400G networks and supports capacity of as much as 19.2 terabits per second per fiber pair.
The new D7070 Series is paired with an FS 800G tunable dense-wavelength-division multiplexing coherent module for higher-capacity connections.
FS plans to continue developing faster transmission systems and optical-line technology while bringing its data-center interconnection products under the centralized control of its AmpCon management software.
