FS Expands Optical Switch Lineup for AI Data Centers

FS

NEW CASTLE, DE — Networking equipment provider FS.com has expanded its D5130 optical circuit switch series to support growing bandwidth and network scheduling demands in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing data centers, adding multimode and customizable configurations to its existing product lineup.

The upgraded series, previously marketed as the DCS-W Series, allows data center operators to establish optical connections between network ports without converting light signals into electrical signals, a process that can add complexity to data transmission infrastructure.

The expansion targets AI computing environments where large volumes of data must move between processors and other systems, requiring network connections that can be reconfigured as workloads change.

FS said the D5130 uses a non-blocking optical architecture based on microelectromechanical systems, or MEMS, technology. The switches can establish connections between input and output ports without optical-electrical-optical conversion.

The equipment supports transmission speeds ranging from 100 gigabits per second to 800 gigabits per second and higher, without requiring the switch to interpret individual networking protocols.

That design allows operators to use the same optical switching infrastructure across different transmission standards and speeds as computing requirements evolve.

The expanded portfolio includes 8-by-8, 16-by-16 and 32-by-32 port configurations, with single-mode and multimode fiber options. Customized systems are available with matrices of up to 32-by-32 ports.

The configurations are intended to accommodate deployments ranging from laboratory testing to larger data center networks.

Additional capabilities include dark-fiber switching, bidirectional optical-path control and optical power monitoring on selected models.

The switches also incorporate dual redundant AC or DC power supplies and a web-based management interface for configuration, connection monitoring and alarm handling.

The product lineup includes D5130-W08/16/32-S single-mode models, D5130-W08/16/32-M multimode models and the customizable D5130-W-C.

FS plans to integrate the D5130 series with its AmpCon network management platform, which supports other data center interconnection products.

The planned integration would allow operators to manage optical circuit switching alongside additional network infrastructure through a common software environment. The company did not specify when that functionality would become available.

FS also provides network architecture design, deployment assistance and technical support for customers implementing the equipment.

The expansion positions the D5130 series within a segment of data center networking focused on reducing signal conversion and accommodating changing AI computing workloads.

For operators building or expanding AI infrastructure, the equipment offers additional choices in optical connection capacity, fiber compatibility and network configuration without requiring a separate switching architecture for each transmission speed or protocol.
