PHILADELPHIA, PA — Two key ramps connecting Front Street and Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia will remain closed around the clock through late May, creating extended detours for drivers in and around the Sports Complex area.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: Front Street ramps to/from I-95
- Dates: Through approximately Thursday, May 21
- Times: 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Reason: Bridge repairs and roadway widening
The ramp from Front Street to northbound I-95 and the ramp from southbound I-95 to Front Street are closed 24/7 as part of a major infrastructure improvement project.
Drivers on Front Street will be directed to use Oregon Avenue, then turn left onto Columbus Boulevard to access northbound I-95.
Southbound I-95 motorists will be detoured to exit at Broad Street (Route 611), turn right onto Broad Street, then right onto Packer Avenue to reconnect with Front Street.
PennDOT is coordinating with the South Philadelphia Sports Complex to temporarily reopen the ramps to a single lane for two hours before and after high-traffic events, including Saturday, April 25.
Motorists should expect delays near the work zone and along detour routes. Plan extra time and consider alternate routes, especially during event traffic surges.
The project includes structural repairs to bridge decks and supports, replacement of expansion joints, upgrades to lighting, and repainting of overhead sign structures.
All work is weather dependent and scheduled to continue through late May.
