WYOMISSING, PA — PENN Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: PENN), recently announced that the founding family behind sports media and gaming company theScore will be stepping down from their roles at PENN Interactive. The transition comes as PENN Entertainment seeks to strengthen its position as a leader in online gaming and sports media.
The Levy family, including John, Benjie, Aubrey, and Noah, has been instrumental in the growth and success of theScore since its inception. John Levy’s departure is set for mid-February, with the rest of the family leaving their roles in April 2024.
PENN Entertainment is currently in the final stages of its search for a new Head of Interactive, ensuring a seamless transition and continued growth.
Jay Snowden, CEO and President of PENN Entertainment, lauded the Levys’ contributions. “This transition plan comes at a natural inflection point, with the migration to our proprietary technology platform complete, theScore’s media and betting business delivering record results, and ESPN BET off to a strong start,” he said. “The Levys are truly pioneers in the sports media and gaming industry. I am very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish with them.”
Benjie Levy, Head of PENN Interactive and President and Chief Operating Officer of theScore, echoed Snowden’s sentiments. “Working at PENN has been extremely rewarding,” he said. “Our focus on creating industry-leading technology and products has been second only to our efforts in building a world-class team and fostering a special place to work. We could not be more proud of this team and what we have accomplished together.”
PENN acquired Score Media and Gaming Inc. (theScore) in October 2021, integrating it with its PENN Interactive unit. Under Benjie Levy’s leadership, the integrated interactive team further established PENN as an online gaming leader across North America.
John Levy, Executive Chairman of theScore, expressed his confidence in the enduring success of theScore. “Empowering fans with a seamlessly integrated media and betting experience has been core to our mission since day one. That strategy has led to the success of theScore and theScore Bet in Ontario and ESPN BET in the U.S., and will continue to differentiate this online gaming business going forward.”
This leadership transition marks a new chapter for PENN Entertainment. With the Levys’ departure, the company is poised to usher in a new era of growth and innovation, building on the successful foundation laid by the founding family. As PENN Entertainment continues to chart its course in the online gaming and sports media industry, the company’s commitment to its mission and its stakeholders remains steadfast.
