Fatal Multi-Car Crash in Bear, Delaware Claims One Life: Police Investigating

BEAR, DE — A fatal multi-vehicle crash in Bear, Delaware on Sunday afternoon has claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman. The accident involved three vehicles and resulted in the road being closed for approximately four hours.

According to the Delaware State Police, the collision occurred at around 4:17 p.m. on November 19, 2023. A white 2017 Toyota RAV-4 and a black 2011 Nissan Altima were traveling westbound on Pulaski Highway (US 40), approaching the intersection of Bear Christiana Road (DE Route 7). Simultaneously, a red 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling eastbound on Pulaski Highway in the inner left turn lane.

The Chevrolet reportedly failed to stop at a red turn signal and proceeded to turn left into the path of the Toyota, which had entered the intersection on a solid green light. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, and the Nissan, traveling directly behind the Toyota, then crashed into the Toyota and Chevrolet.

The passenger in the Toyota, a 65-year-old woman from Bear, Delaware, was transported to a local hospital where she later died. Her identity is being withheld until family members have been notified. The driver of the Toyota, a 60-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was also admitted to the hospital.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 61-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver and occupants of the Nissan, a 42-year-old woman and three children, all from Bear, Delaware, were uninjured.
