Fatal Hit-and-Run at Lehigh Ave and Emerald St: Philadelphia Police Seek Public’s Help

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A 33-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the early hours of Wednesday, November 1, 2023. The fatal crash occurred in the 24th District at the intersection of Lehigh Ave and Emerald St around 3:01 a.m.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department, the victim was attempting to cross the street using the designated crosswalk when he was struck by a black SUV. The vehicle, which was traveling west on the 1900 block of Lehigh Ave, had disregarded a steady red signal.

The impact was such that the victim was dragged several hundred feet on the 1900 block of Lehigh Ave. The suspect then fled the scene at a high rate of speed, heading west on Lehigh Ave. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Medic #8 at 3:12 a.m.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is currently investigating this tragic incident. To date, the driver and the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident have not been identified or located.
