PHILADELPHIA, PA — Exyn Technologies (NASDAQ: EXYN) has begun the Green UAS certification process for its Nexys autonomous mapping platform, a step intended to broaden the system’s eligibility for U.S. defense, federal agency and public safety procurement.
The company’s Exyn Defense unit is pursuing certification as government buyers place greater emphasis on the security, interoperability and supply-chain integrity of unmanned aircraft systems.
Certification would position Nexys for additional federal contracting opportunities, but Exyn did not disclose an expected completion date, associated costs or any contracts contingent on approval.
“Initiating the Green UAS certification process is an important step in expanding our addressable government market,” Guy Barni, general manager of Exyn Defense, stated.
Nexys is a modular platform designed to provide autonomous navigation and mapping in environments where GPS, prior maps or continuous communications are unavailable.
The system uses ExynAI, the company’s proprietary autonomy software, to process onboard perception data, identify obstacles, determine location and generate three-dimensional maps without continuous operator control.
Exyn is positioning the technology for intelligence gathering, reconnaissance and infrastructure assessment across aerial and ground robotic systems.
The platform’s software-first architecture is intended to allow Exyn to adapt Nexys to changing federal security standards, approved hardware components and mission requirements without redesigning the underlying autonomy engine.
Barni stated that procurement standards for trusted autonomous systems are likely to become a more important competitive factor as defense agencies expand their use of robotics.
Green UAS certification is designed to evaluate commercial unmanned aircraft systems against government security and supply-chain requirements. Beginning the process does not guarantee that Nexys will receive certification.
Exyn Defense is seeking to extend technology developed for autonomous mapping in industrial environments into defense and national security applications. The company did not identify which Nexys hardware configuration is undergoing review or specify the federal programs it intends to pursue.
