PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers traveling through Center City early Wednesday morning should expect temporary slowdowns and brief traffic stoppages on Interstate 95 as PennDOT crews conduct surveying work tied to a major highway cap project.
At A Glance
- Roads Affected: Interstate 95 between I-676 (Central Philadelphia/Callowhill Street Exit 22) and Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20)
- Dates: Wednesday, March 11
- Times: 2:00 AM – 5:00 AM
- Reason: Surveying work for the I-95 CAP construction project
PennDOT said periodic lane closures and rolling traffic stoppages will occur in both directions of I-95 while crews perform early morning surveying work along the corridor.
Rolling stoppages temporarily halt traffic to allow work crews to safely complete measurements and inspections before reopening the lanes.
The surveying is part of the $329 million I-95 CAP project, which will replace and expand the covered section of the interstate between Chestnut Street and Walnut Street, reconnecting portions of Center City with the Delaware River waterfront.
Motorists traveling through the area during the early morning hours should plan extra travel time and be prepared for intermittent traffic holds and backups near the work zone.
