MARIETTA, PA — Donegal Mutual Insurance Company said it plans to migrate its claims, billing, and policy administration systems to the Guidewire Cloud platform as part of an ongoing technology modernization effort.
The insurer said the migration of its claims and billing systems is scheduled for completion by early 2027, with the transition of its policy administration system expected to follow and conclude in 2028.
The move follows the company’s multi-year project to modernize its policy administration system, which recently concluded.
Sanjay Pandey, Donegal’s executive vice president and chief information officer, said the phased rollout is intended to reduce operational risk while the company continues other business initiatives.
“In 2025, Donegal conducted a detailed and thorough assessment of the benefits of migrating to Guidewire Cloud,” Pandey said. “We determined that this transition will significantly enhance our agility, accelerate time-to-market for new products and enhancements, and reduce the operational cost and complexity associated with maintaining on-premises systems.”
Pandey said the cloud platform is expected to provide improved tools for business users and scalable infrastructure for the company’s operations.
The announcement is part of Donegal’s broader modernization program, which also includes initiatives related to generative artificial intelligence.
The company said it deployed its first generative AI solution into production and is testing several additional pilot projects.
“Donegal has successfully deployed its first GenAI solution into production, with several additional pilot projects nearing completion,” Pandey said.
The company said the early results from those projects helped guide its evaluation of artificial intelligence capabilities expected to be available through the Guidewire Cloud platform.
Donegal said it is also working to develop new generative AI tools that will be integrated into its claims system as part of the cloud migration.
