Demolition of Pedestrian Bridge to Affect Traffic on Roosevelt Boulevard

Travel Restrictions

BENSALEM TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that starting Wednesday, April 17, Brandywine Byberry, LP will initiate the demolition of a pedestrian bridge spanning U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, and Philadelphia. This undertaking is set to prompt significant travel restrictions, affecting both directions of the busy thoroughfare.

Motorists can expect around-the-clock lane closures on southbound U.S. 1 between Comly Road and Old Lincoln Highway from Wednesday, April 17, to Monday, April 22. The project will then shift focus to the northbound lanes, with closures moving from the outer lanes on Monday, April 22, to the inner lanes by Tuesday, April 23. The pattern of disruption will mirror on the southbound side, with inside lanes closing on Wednesday, April 24, followed by outside lanes on Thursday, April 25, and Friday, April 26.

Travelers traversing this section of Roosevelt Boulevard during the demolition period are advised to anticipate delays and allocate additional time for their journeys. Given the 24-hour nature of the lane closures, the impact on traffic flow is expected to be significant, with potential backups extending beyond the immediate vicinity of the work zone.

The demolition work, which falls under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit granted to Brandywine Byberry, LP, is a critical step in the area’s ongoing infrastructure development efforts. However, it also necessitates patience and caution from the public as adjustments are made to accommodate the construction activities.

All scheduled work and the corresponding travel restrictions are contingent upon favorable weather conditions, and PennDOT commits to keeping the community informed of any changes or updates to the project timeline.

Motorists are reminded to heed travel advisories, respect work zone speed limits, and remain vigilant to ensure the safety of both the construction workers and fellow drivers.
