DOVER, DE — The Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs is set to make March a month to remember with a series of captivating events at its various museums and historic sites across the state. These events offer an engaging blend of history, culture, and entertainment, promising something for everyone.

On Saturday, March 2, the John Dickinson Plantation teams up with the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve (DNERR) for “Spilling the Tea on Tea.” This free event offers an intriguing mix of history and science as participants sip tea and learn about its historical uses and innovative applications in research. With DNERR scientists explaining how tea helps measure decomposition in the marsh surrounding the St. Jones River, this is one tea party you won’t want to miss. Pre-registration is required for this event, which runs from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.

The following Saturday, March 9, the Thistledown Fiber Arts Guild will offer demonstrations of spinning, weaving, knitting, and other historic handcrafts at the John Dickinson Plantation. Running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a group meeting from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Mansion Dining Room, this event is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in traditional arts and crafts.

Over at the New Castle Court House Museum, Patricia Maclay will present “Lafayette’s Farewell Tour” on Sunday, March 10. This talk, a joint program between the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Friends of Lafayette, delves into Lafayette’s visit to New Castle on his farewell tour. The presentation starts at 1:00 PM and admission is free.
