DELAWARE — The Delaware Association for Environmental Education (DAEE) is set to host its 15th Annual Conference on February 24, 2024, at Fred Fifer III Middle School in Camden. This year’s conference theme is “Nature Access for All!” with University of Delaware professor and acclaimed author, Dr. McKay Jenkins, as the keynote speaker.

The conference aims to unite formal and non-formal educators, community leaders, and advocates to help increase environmental literacy across Delaware’s diverse communities. Attendees can look forward to networking opportunities, professional learning, hands-on experiences, and community education for both adults and youth. The event will also spotlight environmental education initiatives, resources, best practices, and local issues to promote impactful environmental stewardship.

DAEE is currently inviting professionals, thought leaders, and experts in education or environmental issues to submit presentation proposals on innovative topics, best practices, and emerging trends. Interested speakers are encouraged to submit their proposals by December 29, addressing one of the conference subjects:

  1. Connecting People with Nature
  2. Engaging Professionals in Environmental Education
  3. Cultivating Environmental Leaders
  4. Innovative and Inclusive Environmental Education

In addition to the conference, DAEE is opening nominations for its 2023 “Awards for Excellence,” which aim to recognize outstanding achievements, innovation, and leadership in environmental education in Delaware. This recognition, established in 2017 by the Delaware Communities in Nature in partnership with DAEE, encourages individuals and organizations to nominate themselves for their noteworthy activities and projects in 2023.

Award Categories include Exemplary Partnership, Meaningful Impact, Healthy Innovation, and Outstanding Field Educator. Nominations must be submitted online by January 5.

The upcoming DAEE conference and awards represent a significant opportunity for professionals and advocates to contribute to environmental education and literacy in Delaware, fostering a deeper connection with nature and cultivating future environmental leaders.
