WILMINGTON, DE — A 30-year-old man from Ansonia, Connecticut, has been charged with murder following a death investigation into the passing of a 21-month-old girl in Delaware. Timothy Olschafskie was extradited to Delaware from Connecticut on November 14 after an arrest warrant was obtained for him in connection with the toddler’s death.

The allegations in the criminal complaint reveal that the Wilmington Police Department responded to a call of a child suffering from a medical emergency on the 100 block of Town Estates Drive at approximately 9:29 am on March 11. The child was transported to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A subsequent investigation by the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences determined that the cause of the child’s death was homicide. After collaboration between Detective Brianna Rodrigues of the Criminal Investigations Division and the Delaware Department of Justice, warrants were obtained for Olschafskie on November 2.

Olschafskie was taken into custody on the same day by the police department in Enfield, Connecticut. He has since been arraigned on the charge of Murder by Abuse or Neglect (First Degree).

Following his extradition to Delaware, Olschafskie was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11. He has been committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $2,000,000 cash-only bail.

Respecting the privacy of the victim’s family, the Wilmington Police Department will not be releasing any further details about the incident.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
