HARLEYSVILLE, PA and JOHOR, Malaysia — Colorcon has officially opened a new 200,000-square-foot film coating manufacturing facility in Johor, Malaysia, bolstering its global supply capabilities and reinforcing its commitment to the pharmaceutical sector in the Asia-Pacific region.
The facility, which begins operations with an initial workforce of 30 employees, is equipped with advanced manufacturing and energy-efficient technologies. It will serve as a key production hub for pharmaceutical film coatings in the region, helping Colorcon meet growing demand while enhancing the resilience of its global supply chain.
“This investment is aligned with our long-term vision to strengthen and de-risk our supply model for film coatings worldwide,” said Simon Tasker, CEO of Colorcon. He noted the facility was designed to stay ahead of market demand and represents one of several initiatives in development.
The expansion into Malaysia reflects both the strategic importance of the Asia-Pacific market and the country’s emerging role in high-value pharmaceutical manufacturing. Colorcon aims to provide improved service and shorter lead times to regional customers through local production.
Willem Hoogwater, Managing Director at Colorcon, called the project “a monumental achievement” and highlighted the team’s efforts in bringing the plant to completion. “We’re proud to offer superior film coating technology and a world-class facility to this rapidly growing region,” he said.
The new site further positions Colorcon as a leader in pharmaceutical excipient manufacturing, emphasizing quality, regulatory excellence, and environmental responsibility. As demand for drug formulation support continues to rise in Asia, the facility is expected to play a critical role in scaling production and supporting future growth.
