ClimeCo Supports High-Integrity Approval of Adipic Acid Protocols

BOYERTOWN, PA — ClimeCo has played a pivotal role in the development of the Climate Action Reserve’s (CAR) US and China Adipic Acid Production Protocols, which have been awarded the prestigious Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market. This recognition spotlights the protocols’ alignment with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and environmental impact.

Adipic acid production is a significant source of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions, a greenhouse gas 273 times more potent than carbon dioxide. ClimeCo’s contributions to the protocols reflect years of expertise in market-based climate solutions and its commitment to addressing super pollutants.

“The Integrity Council’s approval underscores the importance of scientific integrity and transparency behind methodologies, as well as opens the door for wider market recognition of the environmental and health benefits delivered by these projects,” said William Flederbach, Jr., CEO and President of ClimeCo.

ClimeCo has led N2O abatement efforts for over 15 years, achieving more than 40 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent reductions from nitric and adipic acid production in the U.S. alone. The company has also pushed voluntary N2O destruction efficiency rates to 99.9% in projects such as the one at Ascend Performance Materials. ClimeCo is now expanding its work internationally with three N2O abatement projects in China, aiming to mitigate climate pollution and improve air quality in densely populated areas.

“Though less discussed in mainstream climate conversations, N2O’s impact is profound, contributing both to global warming and the depletion of the ozone layer,” Flederbach emphasized. “By addressing emissions from industrial sources like adipic acid production, CAR’s protocols tackle one of the most potent and persistent threats to our climate.”
