PHILADELPHIA, PA — Chris’ Jazz Café, Philadelphia’s longest continuously operating jazz club, is setting the mood for love and celebration this February with back-to-back showcases marking Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras in signature New Orleans–meets–Center City style.
The iconic venue at 1421 Sansom Street will headline Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 14, with sultry vocalist Joanna Pascale and her band, pairing torch-song jazz with a romance-forward menu crafted by chef and owner Mark DeNinno. The evening’s offerings include heart-shaped ravioli with lobster Aragosta sauce, roasted oysters dubbed Cupid’s Kiss, and complimentary chocolate petit fours.
Pascale’s Valentine’s performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., backed by an ensemble featuring John Swana on trumpet, Josh Richman on piano, Madison Rast on bass, and Dan Monaghan on drums. General admission tickets with an à la carte menu are priced at $50, while dinner-and-show packages range from $120 to $140, depending on seating.
Just days later, the club will trade romance for revelry on Fat Tuesday, February 17, as Mardi Gras takes over Sansom Street with the return of Hoppin’ John’s Soul-Fried Brass Band. The 10-piece group will launch the night with a full parade, dancing up the 1400 block of Chestnut Street, down Sansom, and straight onto the Chris’ Jazz Café stage — an entrance DeNinno calls the highlight of the year.
The Mardi Gras celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. and features beads, bling, cold beer, low-country cuisine, $15 buckets of crawfish, and all-you-can-eat crawfish for $40. General admission is $15.
Chris’ Jazz Café has been a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s live music scene for decades, hosting jazz performances Tuesday through Saturday while blending intimate club energy with nationally respected musicians.
