NORTH EAST, MD — Clearing out old paperwork and celebrating the planet can go hand in hand this Earth Day as Cecil College invites the community to a free shred event paired with a lively farmers market experience.
On Tuesday, April 21, residents and local businesses are encouraged to bring sensitive documents to the college’s main campus for secure, on-site shredding. The event offers a practical way to protect personal information while taking part in a community-focused Earth Day celebration.
A mobile shred unit will be available throughout the event, allowing participants to watch their documents being destroyed in real time. Items such as charge receipts, bank statements, insurance forms, and other sensitive paperwork can be safely disposed of, helping reduce the risk of identity theft.
In addition to paper shredding, the event will also accept a variety of outdated media items for proper disposal, including:
- Videotapes
- Floppy disks
- Thumb drives
- X-rays
- CDs and microfiche (no cases)
More Than Just Shredding
The Earth Day celebration will also feature a farmers market-style atmosphere, with local vendors and food trucks adding to the experience.
Attendees can enjoy offerings from Finnegan’s Famous food truck, Sweet Tuscany coffee truck, and Mad Waffle, which will be serving free ice cream. A variety of regional vendors—including Rumbleway Farm, Bohemia Bees, Stafford Farm, and Good Grain—will be on-site alongside local artisans and specialty shops.
The combination of secure shredding and community vendors creates an event that is both practical and festive, encouraging residents to responsibly dispose of materials while supporting local businesses.
