Cecil College Announces New Leadership for Board of Trustees

NORTH EAST, MDCecil College continues to be a pivotal institution for Cecil County, ensuring education and opportunities for its residents. The college has appointed Raymond W. “Chick” Hamm, Jr., as Chair of the Board of Trustees and Kathleen Kunda as Vice-Chair, reinforcing its commitment to strong leadership.

Mr. Hamm, entering his fifth year of a six-year appointment, expressed his pride in serving the students. “I am most proud of the students and having the opportunity to serve them. My trustee experience has provided a front-row view of many students from all walks of life working very hard to improve their education and preparedness for the workforce. They are amazing,” said Mr. Hamm.

Ms. Kunda is beginning the third year of her six-year appointment. She echoed Mr. Hamm’s sentiments, emphasizing her excitement about serving the students and the community. “I am excited to have this phenomenal opportunity to serve our students and the community. Cecil College fulfills the hopes and dreams of Cecil County’s youth and returning students. To be a part of changing someone’s life is amazing,” she said.

Mr. Hamm brings 48 years of financial experience to the board from his career in the banking industry in Maryland. Currently, he serves as Executive Vice President and Market Leader at PNC Bank. His expertise has been crucial in maintaining the college’s financial stability. “Cecil College is the key provider of workforce readiness training for our region, and as the county continues to experience growth in jobs and career opportunities, Cecil’s open access and affordability will help our friends, families, and neighbors achieve their goals,” he said. He also highlighted the college’s role in community activities, including athletics and the arts, which he believes are vital for social unity.

Ms. Kunda is actively involved with the Cecil College Foundation and various student clubs and committees. Her dedication to understanding and addressing student needs has made her a significant figure within the college. “I see Cecil College growing and continuing to play a vital role in the success of Cecil County. Community colleges are becoming the primary education system in our country to prepare students for the workforce, which is vital to our mission at Cecil College,” she stated.

With Mr. Hamm and Ms. Kunda at the helm, Cecil College is poised to continue its mission of providing accessible education and workforce training, fostering a thriving community for Cecil County residents.
