NORTH EAST, MD — Cecil College inducted 85 students into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society on September 23, expanding membership in its Alpha Alpha Theta Chapter to more than 225 students and recognizing academic achievement among students meeting the organization’s grade-point average and faculty recommendation requirements.
The induction ceremony took place at the Technology Center on the college’s North East Campus. The new members join an organization that also counts more than 1,500 alumni from the institution.
Membership in Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for students attending two-year colleges, requires a minimum 3.5 grade-point average and a faculty recommendation.
The organization provides academic recognition and opportunities for leadership development, educational programming and community service.
Cecil College’s Alpha Alpha Theta Chapter was established in 1974 and holds Five-Star Level status under Phi Theta Kappa’s Five-Star Chapter Plan, a framework for chapter development and organizational achievement.
Chapter members are working to maintain that designation through continued participation in the society’s academic, leadership and service activities.
The chapter is supported by faculty and staff advisers Ashley Fundack, a professor at Cecil College; Cheryl Davis-Robinson, director of student life; and Kelsey Jakubac, coordinator of student engagement.
