California Road Bridge Reopens to Traffic in Caernarvon Township

PennDOT

CAERNARVON TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the California Road (Route 1019) bridge in Caernarvon Township, Lancaster County, has officially reopened to traffic following the completion of a full bridge replacement project.

The bridge, which spans an unnamed tributary to the Conestoga River just north of Route 23 (New Holland Pike), was closed last year after inspectors discovered structural damage. The closure prompted a long-term detour that has now been lifted with the reopening of the new structure.

The $562,093 project was completed by Doli Construction Corporation of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, and is part of PennDOT’s broader initiative to modernize and maintain aging infrastructure across the region. The new bridge is expected to provide improved safety, reliability, and resilience for local motorists and freight traffic.
