Bridge Inspections in Philadelphia to Cause Traffic Slowdowns

Traffic Advisory

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has unveiled plans for a series of bridge inspections across Philadelphia, including a focus on the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge, that are expected to lead to traffic delays. These inspections, crucial for ensuring the safety and integrity of the state’s infrastructure, will necessitate various lane closures from Monday, May 6, through Friday, May 17.

The inspection schedule kicks off with a right lane closure on the eastbound deck of the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, spanning from Monday, May 6, to Thursday, May 9. The effort then extends to Interstate-76, where a right lane closure near the Girard Avenue Interchange is set for Wednesday, May 8, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a left lane closure on the westbound side from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Further disruptions continue on Friday, May 10, with another right lane closure planned for the westbound deck of the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge, again from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The following week, I-676 will see right lane closures affecting both eastbound and westbound directions between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges, scheduled from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday, May 13, through Wednesday, May 15, and then again on Thursday, May 16, and Friday, May 17.

Motorists traveling these key routes during the specified times are advised to anticipate slowdowns and allocate additional travel time.

All planned inspection activities are contingent upon favorable weather conditions, and schedules may be adjusted as needed. PennDOT urges drivers to exercise patience and caution when approaching work areas, underscoring the importance of these inspections to the overall well-being of the city’s transportation network.
