UPPER CHICHESTER TWP, PA — PennDOT is warning motorists to prepare for major weekend disruptions as demolition work on a U.S. 322 bridge forces the closure of a key stretch of Route 452 (Market Street) in Upper Chichester Township.
The closure is tied to demolition of the eastbound side of the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge spanning Route 452, part of a $99.4 million project to reconstruct, widen, and improve travel and safety along a 1.4-mile section of U.S. 322 in Delaware County. While Route 452 will be shut down during the operation, U.S. 322 will remain open with one lane in each direction, with traffic shifted onto the westbound side of the bridge.
Weather permitting, Route 452 (Market Street) will be closed and detoured between Bethel Avenue and Story Road from 9:00 PM Friday, February 6, through 6:00 AM Monday, February 9.
During the closure, northbound Route 452 drivers will be directed to use U.S. 322 East, I-95 North, I-476 North, U.S. 1 South, and Route 452 (Pennell Road) to reach Market Street. Southbound drivers will be detoured via U.S. 322 West, Route 261 (Foulk Road), Garnet Mine Road, and U.S. 322 East.
PennDOT cautioned that significant backups and delays are likely throughout the weekend, both near the work zone and along the detour routes. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and remain alert for changing traffic patterns. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
With weekend travel expected to be heavily impacted across the region, drivers are strongly encouraged to stay informed by visiting the MyChesCo Traffic Center at https://www.mychesco.com/traffic/, where real-time updates, detours, and traffic alerts can help motorists plan ahead and avoid costly delays.
