KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — BLOCS is reshaping its board after four longtime directors ended more than a decade of service each, marking a leadership transition at the education nonprofit as it continues work supporting students at hundreds of Pennsylvania schools.
Brian McElwee, Fran VanKirk, Charlie Bernier and Bill Streich stepped down from the BLOCS Board of Directors effective June 30, the organization reported. BLOCS did not identify replacements for the departing directors.
Each had served on the board for well over a decade, helping oversee an organization whose educational programs have reached tens of thousands of children from prekindergarten through 12th grade.
McElwee is president of Valley Forge Investment Corporation and board chair of Independent Mission Schools, where he will continue focusing on the organization’s 13 schools.
VanKirk is a retired partner and executive at Heidrick & Struggles and previously spent 10 years as office managing partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s Philadelphia office.
Bernier is president of ECBM, a Philadelphia-area insurance brokerage. Streich most recently served as chief financial officer of Holt Logistics Corporation before retiring following a career in financial management.
“Their service helped shape BLOCS, and their impact will continue to benefit our children for years to come,” BLOCS Chief Executive Officer Rob Delany stated.
The organization recognized the four directors at its annual gala in May, ahead of their departures at the end of June.
BLOCS Chairman Matt McFillin stated that the board and leadership team remain focused on expanding educational opportunities for more than 43,000 children attending 584 schools across Pennsylvania.
The organization did not disclose any additional changes to its board structure or leadership in connection with the departures.
